Rodrigo said it was "awful" to see a song she wrote about misogyny paired with footage of ICE raids, and argued such clashes serve as a "tool" to divert attention from other actions. DHS reiterated a statement it gave in March, saying America is "grateful" for law enforcement and suggesting Rodrigo "thank them for their service." Other artists, including Taylor Swift and SZA, have had music used in similar official videos and pushed back publicly; a DHS official told Variety in November the tactic works because "fake news media brands" amplify the backlash.
