A Conservative peer, Lord Jackson of Peterborough, has told Fox News Digital that Christians in the UK now face "two-tier justice" and that it is "open season" to discriminate against them, while claiming extremist Islamist preachers are permitted to operate more freely. He raised the case of Finnish MP Päivi Räsänen, whose UK travel authorisation was cancelled after her "hate speech" conviction over a church booklet's passages on homosexuality, as an example of the pressures he says Christians face over traditional religious views.

Räsänen was granted a UK visa on 21 August, but too late to attend an event in Northern Ireland in person, according to ADF International, which represents her; she was informed of the approval at 6.45pm and spoke remotely instead at 7.30pm. Jackson, a member of the House of Lords since November 2022 and vice chair of a parliamentary group on religious freedom, said Britain lacks the free speech protections of the US and cited cases of women facing repercussions for refusing to undress alongside transgender women or for wearing a cross at work. He said he and allies, working with groups including Christian Concern and the Christian Institute, are offering legal support and pushing for stronger free speech protections in Parliament.
