Gal Gadot's new Prime Video action thriller The Runner has launched to overwhelmingly negative reviews, scoring just 9% on Rotten Tomatoes and becoming the lowest-rated film of her career. Marketed as a modern take on the Die Hard-style "ordinary person in extraordinary danger" formula, the film was intended to fill the gap left by ageing franchises such as Taken, but critics have dismissed it as derivative and poorly executed, denting expectations for a fresh Gadot vehicle.

The film casts Gadot as Maia, a lawyer whose son is abducted after she drops him at school, forcing her to race across London completing a kidnapper's demands. It co-stars Damian Lewis, Alfred Enoch and others, and is directed by Kevin Macdonald. Its 9% score is markedly worse than Gadot's previous critical low points, including Keeping Up with the Joneses (19%), Batman v Superman (28%), Heart of Stone (31%) and Snow White (39%), with outlets including Variety, The Guardian and RogerEbert.com all criticising the film's uninspired story and performances.
