Bradford end losing run with win over Castleford

BBC Sport · 4 hours ago

Bradford Bulls ended a run of seven straight defeats by beating Castleford Tigers 6 tries to 4 at Odsal Stadium in the West Yorkshire derby, easing their own relegation worries while deepening the crisis at a Castleford side currently without a head coach. The Bulls dominated from the outset, boosted by the return of experienced forwards Ryan Sutton, Dan Russell and Phoenix Steinwede, and led comfortably at half-time before holding off a Castleford fightback in the second half.

Bradford scored through Riley Dean, Connor Wynne, Caleb Aekins, Dan Russell, Waqa Blake and Ebon Scurr, with scrum-half Chris Atkin, playing against his former club, kicking four goals and setting up several tries. Castleford, who have now lost six of their last seven games since beating leaders Leeds Rhinos in July, replied with two tries from Krystian Mapapalangi plus scores from Louis Senior and Alex Mellor. The result moves Bradford level on points with York Knights, Huddersfield Giants and Hull FC with one round remaining, setting up a crucial final match away at second-bottom York Knights.
