Fox has ordered its first live-action comedy series in over two years, greenlighting "Mammoth" for the 2027-28 season from Modern Family creators Christopher Lloyd and Danny Zuker. The show is a US adaptation of the BBC Two comedy of the same name, marking Fox's latest reliance on British formats to fill its scripted comedy slate after a lengthy dry spell in the genre.

The series follows Coach Tony Mammoth, a gym teacher frozen in a 1983 avalanche who thaws out 40 years later still stuck in an '80s mindset, complete with moustache and Trans-Am, as he navigates a changed world. It is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios with BBC Studios Los Angeles, and executive produced by Lloyd, Zuker, Mark Linsey, Angie Stephenson and original series creator Mike Bubbins. The order comes after Fox passed on new comedies around its May upfront and cancelled "Going Dutch", leaving "Animal Control" as its sole live-action comedy for 2026-27; "Mammoth" predates a cheaper production model Fox has been exploring, with per-episode costs reportedly targeted between $1.1 million and $1.6 million for future greenlights.
