Teyana Taylor, the Golden Globe-winning singer and actress, is building an ensemble cast for her feature directorial debut "Get Lite", with Tony winner Leslie Odom, Jr. and Oscar nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor now confirmed alongside leads Storm Reid and Ceyair Wright. The Paramount film centres on a sheltered dance student who finds love and belonging in the New York subway system, built around Litefeet, a dance style that originated in Taylor's native Harlem. It marks a significant step for Taylor as a filmmaker, coming shortly after her acclaimed acting turn in "One Battle After Another".

Filming begins this month in New York, ahead of a wide theatrical release set for 20 August 2027. Taylor directs from a screenplay by Maurice Williams, adapted from a 2020 Black List spec script by Eric Gross, and is producing alongside Courtney "Coco" Gilbert through their banner The Aunties. The wider cast includes musician Khayr Bullock, streamer Tylil James and actor Woody McClain, with Jodie Turner-Smith and Asante Blackk currently in negotiations for further key roles. Reid also serves as a producer, working with Kenya Barris and other partners on the project.
