Hulu's new eight-episode crime thriller "Furious" has quietly become one of the standout television debuts of the year, with its first season finale cementing it as a critical favourite even though it has flown under the radar compared with other recent hits. Created by Elizabeth Meriweather, best known for "New Girl", the show is loosely inspired by the 1987 film "Black Widows" but shares little beyond its central premise of women serial killers pursued by federal agents, instead carving out its own tense, character-driven identity.

According to Variety, the finale drew 90% more viewers than the premiere, which had already entered the lower reaches of Nielsen's streaming charts, and the series has since been renewed for a second season. Critics have praised its disciplined pacing, tonal control and strong ensemble cast, including Emmy Rossum, Quincy Tyler Bernstine and Kelly Petticrew, alongside supporting turns from Scoot McNairy and Jake Lacy, for handling dark subject matter with care rather than exploitation.
