A Florida bakery owner's public accusation that a delivery driver had stolen $3,100 worth of cinnamon rolls turned out to be false, after police discovered the courier had instead been detained by US Border Patrol while en route to the delivery. Julie Pierre, 21, owner of Sunrise-based Roll & Dough, had hired an Uber driver to deliver roughly 350 of her viral cinnamon rolls to a farmers market on 22 August; when they failed to arrive and she could not reach the driver, she publicised the apparent theft to her large social media following. Sunrise police later confirmed no theft had taken place, and the bakery issued a public apology for the accusation.

The driver, Colombian national Ivan Dario Rico Molano, was stopped on Interstate 95 after a records check flagged the vehicle's owner as an immigrant without legal status; he admitted to overstaying his authorised entry from May 2021 and was arrested for processing. He was permitted to have someone else collect the vehicle, still containing the pastries, and that person later contacted police to arrange their return. The rolls were recovered on 27 August, five days after the intended delivery, but by then were unfit for sale and had to be thrown away, leaving Pierre with the $3,100 loss regardless of the theft claim being withdrawn.
