Pet Shop Boys have announced a new studio album, 'A Man From The Future', a musical work inspired by the life of British mathematician Alan Turing, created with his biographer Andrew Hodges. Released on 9 October via Parlophone Records, the eight-track record combines songs, spoken word, and electronic and orchestral music to chart Turing's life chronologically, from his schooldays and time at Cambridge through his codebreaking work on the Enigma machine during the Second World War, his role in inventing the digital computer, his prediction of artificial intelligence, and his prosecution and death in 1954.

The music features string arrangements by Sven Helbig performed by the Manchester Camerata Octet, choral vocals from Manchester Grammar School choir, and narration by actress Juliet Stevenson drawn from Hodges' book Alan Turing: The Enigma, with the final track incorporating a 2009 speech by Gordon Brown apologising for Turing's treatment. Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe described the album as "a musical memorial" to Turing, a reworking of a piece they first wrote with Hodges in 2012 and performed at the BBC Proms in 2014. The album will be broadcast on BBC Radio 6 Music and Radio 3 on 4 October, followed by a listening event with Pet Shop Boys and Hodges at Imperial War Museum North on 8 October, with tickets on sale from 7 September.
