A 63-year-old man in Oklahoma died after swerving to avoid a group of ten feral hogs while driving late at night, sending his car into a ditch, where it rolled and ejected him before landing on top of him. Roger Gregory Cummings, who had recently retired after 40 years at Marlow Lumber, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. His death highlights the growing danger posed by Oklahoma's expanding feral hog population, which is not classed as protected wildlife in the state.

The crash occurred on Sand Hill Road in Stephens County, about 90 miles south of Oklahoma City, with the vehicle last seen around 11.30pm; the collision was not discovered until an ambulance arrived at the scene roughly ten hours later. Feral hogs have been detected in 70 of Oklahoma's 77 counties and are most active at night, according to the state's Wildlife Department, whose officials say they support shooting and trapping to curb numbers. Colleagues described Cummings as a beloved figure in the local community, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol says its investigation remains ongoing.
