HBO has announced new casting for the second season of its Harry Potter television reboot, adding a young Voldemort and a Dobby, while also recasting Ginny Weasley ahead of the show's expected move into Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The updates come just three months before the first season, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, is due to premiere, and they mark the latest additions to the sprawling ensemble cast HBO has been assembling for its long-running adaptation of J.K. Rowling's novels.

Billy Barratt, known for Invasion and Bring Her Back, will play the young Tom Riddle, taking over from Christian Coulson's film portrayal, while Lenny Rush, a BAFTA winner for Am I Being Unreasonable?, will voice or portray Dobby the house-elf, previously realised through CGI and voiced by Toby Jones in the films. Bonnie Hill replaces Gracie Cochrane as Ginny Weasley, joining other newcomers such as Kit Harington as Gilderoy Lockhart. The existing cast includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione and Alastair Stout as Ron, alongside adult stars including John Lithgow, Nick Frost and Paapa Essiedu. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is set to premiere on HBO on 25 December.
