Former Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe has avoided a prison sentence after admitting assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Amie Mayson, during a dispute over money outside her home in Lambeth, south London. Croydon Magistrates' Court heard that Ibe grabbed her arm and hair before pulling out a braid, leaving her with a bald patch, after she called him a "druggy" when he refused to repay money he owed her. The case highlights the wider issue of domestic violence involving public figures and the courts' approach to sentencing in such cases.

Magistrate Brij Kalia handed the 30-year-old a 12-month community order, 80 hours of unpaid work, 27 days of rehabilitation activity and a £764 fine. Ibe, who represented himself in court, told magistrates he was "genuinely remorseful", while Mayson's victim impact statement described lasting effects on her confidence and mental wellbeing, though she said she had found compassion and forgiveness. Ibe, who played for Liverpool, Derby County, Birmingham City and Bournemouth, now plays for Lokomotiv Sofia in Bulgaria after a spell in non-league football.
