GoPro chief executive Nick Woodman has written to customers reassuring them that camera-making remains the company's "core DNA," following the announcement of a proposed $285 million acquisition by Starman. The letter comes amid concern among fans about whether GoPro will keep prioritising consumer and professional cameras post-merger, especially after the original deal announcement mentioned working with Starman on "national security" applications involving cameras, optics and AI infrastructure.

Woodman argued the merger would give GoPro greater financial strength, allowing it to keep innovating on cameras, accessories and software, pointing to the more than 2,500 patents the company has accumulated over 24 years as evidence of its inventive track record. Notably, the letter makes no mention of YouTuber Mark "Markiplier" Fischbach, who had become GoPro's largest individual shareholder prior to the acquisition being announced.
