Prime Video has confirmed it will not renew Nicolas Cage's superhero drama Spider-Noir for a second season, even though the show performed strongly with critics and audiences. It was the first series to reach screens under Amazon MGM Studios' multi-title deal with Sony Pictures Television covering Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters, following the earlier scrapping of related spin-off Silk. Despite the cancellation, the wider Amazon-Sony partnership is continuing, with another project from the deal reportedly nearing a series order, though its concept remains undisclosed.

Spider-Noir scored 92% with critics and 90% with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes and picked up 11 Emmy nominations, the most of any Prime Video show in 2026. It launched at number two on Nielsen's US Top 10 with 851 million minutes viewed in its first week, reaching 2.6 billion minutes over six weeks, but fell out of the daily Top 10 faster than other recent Prime Video hits. Its costly production, which filmed both colour and black-and-white versions, likely weighed against a modest viewership tail in the renewal decision. Season one wrapped up most of its story, led by Cage as Ben Reilly with a cast including Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li and Brendan Gleeson, under showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot.

  • Prime Video cancels Spider-Noir after one season despite strong reviews
  • Amazon-Sony Marvel character deal continues with new project nearing greenlight
  • High production costs likely outweighed the show's solid but fading ratings

Prime Video, Amazon's streaming service, has been building a slate of superhero shows with Sony Pictures Television based on characters from Sony's Spider-Man universe, separate from the main Marvel Cinematic Universe run by Disney. Spider-Noir, starring Nicolas Cage, was the first series to launch under this arrangement, presenting a darker, partly black-and-white take on a Spider-Man character.

Streaming services regularly decide whether to renew or cancel shows after a single season, weighing factors such as viewership, critical reception, awards recognition and production costs against the price of making more episodes. This decision matters because it affects the future shape of Sony and Amazon's shared plans for further series drawing on the same pool of characters, and because it follows an earlier decision to cancel another related show, Silk, raising questions about the partnership's direction.
