Jason Statham's 2018 shark blockbuster The Meg is set to return to HBO Max on 23 September, having briefly left the platform at the start of the month. The film's re-emergence comes as the British actor's more recent output has struggled at the box office, with 2026 releases Shelter and Mutiny both falling short of expectations, making the enduring appeal of his back catalogue notable timing for HBO's autumn line-up.

The Meg, loosely based on Steve Alten's novel, grossed $529 million worldwide as a US-China co-production and starred Statham as Jonas Taylor, a diver forced to confront a giant prehistoric shark to save a trapped research team. Despite lukewarm reviews on release, it has remained a durable streaming favourite, spawning a 2023 sequel, and returns to HBO Max alongside co-stars Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao and Cliff Curtis in time for the Halloween season.
