Jordan Firstman's directorial debut "Club Kid" has premiered at the Telluride Film Festival, building on a strong reception at Cannes where it received a six-minute standing ovation before A24 acquired it for a reported $17 million. Firstman, known for his comedy work including a role on Rachel Sennott's "I Love L.A.", writes, directs and stars as a New York party promoter whose life changes when a son he never knew appears. The film is being positioned as a potential awards contender, with attention also falling on supporting cast member Colleen Camp, whose off-screen influence within Oscar campaigning circles could aid the film's prospects.

Camp, 73, is a veteran character actress with five decades of screen credits, including "Apocalypse Now" and "Clue", but only two prior award nominations, both from the Razzies. She has become known as an influential behind-the-scenes figure on the awards circuit, reportedly helping secure nominations for Andrea Riseborough and being publicly thanked by Da'Vine Joy Randolph during her Oscar win. A24 is running "Club Kid" through Telluride, Toronto and New York ahead of a November release, and Camp also appears in another of the studio's awards-season films, Chris Rock's "Misty Green". Despite the goodwill, commentators note her limited screen time in "Club Kid" may make a supporting actress nomination a difficult prospect in a crowded field.
