Sandra Bullock has suggested that a third instalment of Practical Magic could be made if the upcoming sequel proves successful, with the actress keen to hand the franchise over to the younger cast members playing her onscreen daughters. Speaking to Vanity Fair, Bullock said "we'll do a number three if this takes off… and we'll pass the torch to the girls," referring to co-stars Joey King and Maisie Williams. The comments come ahead of the release of Practical Magic 2, which reunites Bullock with Nicole Kidman nearly three decades after the original 1998 film.

Practical Magic 2, directed by Susanne Bier, premieres on 10 September and sees Sally (Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Kidman) confront a dark family curse, with King and Williams taking over the roles of Sally's daughters Kylie and Antonia from Evan Rachel Wood and Alexandra Artrip. The script, written by Akiva Goldsman, Georgia Pritchett and Kelly Marcel, draws on Alice Hoffman's 2021 novel The Book of Magic, itself a follow-up to her original 1995 book. Hoffman has also written two prequel novels, The Rules of Magic (2017) and Magic Lessons (2020), which could offer further material for future films exploring the Owens family history.
