Ridley Scott has named Blade Runner as one of his four favourite films of all time, discussing the merits of its various cuts in a recent interview tied to the 20th-anniversary re-release of Kingdom of Heaven. The 1982 sci-fi noir, starring Harrison Ford as an agent hunting rogue replicants in a dystopian Los Angeles, initially struggled with audiences but has since become widely regarded as a classic, largely thanks to Scott's persistent recutting of his own work.

Blade Runner exists in five separate versions, with Scott favouring the 2007 Final Cut as the definitive edition, though he says "all variations were okay." He defended Harrison Ford's much-criticised voiceover in the original 1982 theatrical cut, saying it was a deliberate homage to pulp detective fiction and was partly inspired by Martin Sheen's narration in Apocalypse Now; he also praised the darker endings used in the director's and final cuts over the studio-imposed happy ending of the theatrical release.
