A three-part Netflix documentary about Matthew Perry, titled "The One About Matthew Perry", is set for release on 27th October, promising an unprecedented look at the Friends star's life and death using unseen footage and photos supplied by his family. It comes almost three years after Perry's death from a drug overdose at his Los Angeles home, and revisits how he struggled with addiction and fame even as Friends turned him into one of television's biggest stars from 1994 onwards.

Perry's memoirs revealed he was a functioning alcoholic by 14 and had become addicted to the painkiller Vicodin by 1997, often filming Friends while hungover, shaking or drunk, prompting his co-stars to intervene; he entered rehab in 2002. The article also recalls a 2014 Time Out interview in which Perry named Groundhog Day, the 1993 Bill Murray comedy, as his favourite film, praising its theme of self-improvement through mistakes. Notably, Perry landed the role of Chandler Bing in what became Friends only months after Groundhog Day's release, following the cancellation of his earlier sitcom Home Free.
