A camper was photographed pitching a tent on the edge of a crumbling 150ft cliff at West Bay, Dorset, after scaling a safety fence and ignoring warning signs put up by the council. The cliffs, made famous by ITV drama Broadchurch, are geologically unstable and experienced nine recorded rockfalls last year alone, making the camper's choice of spot both a breach of safety measures and a significant personal risk.

The man, wearing a T-shirt and shorts, set up near the 15th hole of Bridport and West Dorset Golf Club, putting himself at risk from stray golf balls as well as the cliff itself, which shows a visible crack in its 180-million-year-old sandstone. He was spotted at around 8pm on Friday by photographer Graham Hunt, who described the act as "idiotic" and noted the footpath has been closed for two and a half years over safety concerns. Dorset Council reiterated that erosion makes the Jurassic Coast inherently unstable and urged visitors to heed warning signs, recalling the 2012 death of 22-year-old tourist Charlotte Blackman in a landslip nearby at Burton Bradstock.
