Netflix has confirmed a premiere date for The Doll, a new period drama seen as part of the streamer's push to build on the success of Bridgerton. The show is a contemporary adaptation of Bolesław Prus's classic Polish novel Lalka, widely regarded as one of the greatest works in Polish literature, and joins a wave of period romance dramas that have emerged across streaming platforms in recent years.

The Doll follows Stanisław Wokulski (Tomasz Schuchardt), a wealthy self-made businessman, and Izabela Łęcka (Sandra Drzymalska), a woman seeking independence in a rigid, male-dominated society. Their developing relationship is complicated by class differences, obsession and personal ambition. The series launches on Netflix on 16 September, and arrives as Bridgerton itself continues, with a fifth season already in production featuring the show's first lead same-sex couple.
