Country music star Randy Travis has announced his first album of original material in 18 years, drawing on recordings made between 1986 and 2013. The news matters because Travis suffered a severe stroke in 2013 that left him largely unable to sing, and many fans had assumed a genuine musical comeback was no longer possible; unlike his two most recent singles, this project does not rely on artificial intelligence to recreate his voice.

The album was assembled after Travis's longtime producer, Kyle Lehning, discovered the previously unreleased tracks "in the vault" and reworked them with Travis's input, remixing and remastering the recordings into 12 new songs featuring his original vocals. The title track, "Same Old Way", co-written by Travis and Lehning, has already been released. It follows two AI-assisted singles, "Where That Came From" (2024) and "Horses In Heaven", which used technology and vocals from singer James Dupre to replicate Travis's classic sound, a method Warner Records Nashville's Cris Lacy defended as giving Travis back his voice.
