Hasan Piker, the far-left Twitch streamer and darling of the Democratic Socialists of America, has dismissed concerns from mainstream Democrats that his incendiary rhetoric is damaging the party's midterm prospects, insisting "my job is not to make the Democratic Party look good." His polarising past comments, including defending Mao Zedong, comparing Zionism to Nazism and suggesting America "deserved" 9/11, have drawn condemnation from senior Democrats and fuelled tensions between the party's establishment and its socialist wing as it seeks major gains in November.

Piker, 35, said no one from the Democratic National Committee has contacted him to coordinate strategy, calling the idea "very funny," and he has actively campaigned for progressive candidates such as Abdul El-Sayed, who upset the establishment-backed Haley Stevens in Michigan's Senate primary. Democratic figures including strategist James Carville, House Minority Leader Hakeen Jeffries, and senators Cory Booker and Jon Ossoff have publicly disavowed him, with Carville calling him "an idiot" who is "not a Democrat." Piker argued the media has overstated his influence on progressive campaigns and said he accepts blame if candidates he backs, such as El-Sayed, go on to lose.
