Apple TV and HBO Max have emerged as the leading contenders for the most Emmy wins overall after two nights of preliminary ceremonies, setting up a showdown at the main televised event on 14 September 2026. Apple TV currently leads with 19 awards (20 counting its Commercial win) to HBO/HBO Max's 16, while Netflix trails on 13 with no realistic path to overtake either rival, even if it sweeps its three remaining long-form series categories. The outcome matters because it would mark the first time Apple TV has finished top of the platform standings, having entered this year's race ranked only third by nominations.

The contest will largely be decided by four heavily nominated shows: HBO Max's The Pitt (25 nominations) and Hacks (24), and Apple TV's Widow's Bay (19) and Pluribus (18). The Pitt remains the drama frontrunner, tipped to repeat wins for Outstanding Drama Series, Noah Wyle's lead performance, and supporting acting, while Pluribus could pick up wins via Rhea Seehorn and in the writing and directing categories. On the comedy side, Widow's Bay has gained momentum against previous favourite Hacks, with close races expected in supporting actress and writing/directing categories; HBO Max, trailing Apple TV by three or four wins, will need strong results from Hacks and the drama/comedy craft categories to finish first.
