A 44-year-old multi-millionaire banker with family ties to European royalty, arrested in June as part of the nine-year investigation into the "Putney Pusher" attack, has been released under investigation rather than remaining on bail, police have confirmed. The case relates to a widely publicised 2017 incident in which a jogger shoved a woman into the path of an oncoming bus on Putney Bridge, and the development marks the most significant progress in an inquiry that had previously stalled with no charges ever brought.

The suspect was arrested on 15 June at his £1.4million west London home on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm, and was further arrested after drugs, said to be cocaine and cannabis, were allegedly found at the property. He is a decorated former Army officer turned City banker with links to the House of Windsor. The original incident occurred on 5 May 2017, when the jogger pushed a woman into the path of a 430 bus travelling at 12mph; quick reactions from driver Oliver Salbris meant she was largely unhurt. Fifty men were interviewed and three suspects arrested at the time, including an American banker who proved he was in the US, but the case was closed in 2018 until new information emerged this year.
