HPE has announced general availability of its Alletra Storage MP B10000 Release 6, which brings block and file storage together on a single disaggregated, scale-out architecture and shared operating system, allowing performance and capacity to scale independently. The move is significant because it tests whether HPE's long-standing "unified storage" claim genuinely holds up in production, at a time when enterprise storage decisions are increasingly shaped by underlying architecture rather than individual array purchases.

The B10000 targets block workloads and adjacent file use cases rather than large-scale AI, analytics or media workloads, which remain the domain of HPE's Alletra Storage MP X10000. Release 6 also expands HPE's AI-driven management tools within its Data Services Cloud Console, including autonomous health checks, a natural-language Storage Copilot, and a new "signature-less" Agentic Support Automation feature that detects unusual operational behaviour, such as abnormal capacity consumption, before it becomes disruptive. The system also adds native real-time ransomware detection across both block and file, complemented by Zerto's application-layer protection.
