Lawyer mom received final text from her clinician daughter, 28, before private plane she was on with brother, 22, and grandparents disappeared without a trace over Bahamas waters

A Florida family of four vanished off the coast of the Bahamas after their light aircraft disappeared from radar during a flight from Great Harbour Cay to Opa Locka on Monday. Sofia Sosa, 28, a neonatal physician assistant, had texted her mother, lawyer Guilaine Sosa, that the group was heading home shortly before contact was lost. The disappearance is significant because it involves multiple generations of one family and has triggered a multi-agency search across rough waters, with authorities racing against difficult weather conditions.

The five-seat Piper PA-34 Seneca was piloted by Sofia's grandfather, Mario Lamar, 80, a pilot with 40 years' experience, and also carried her grandmother, Lili Lamar, 79, and brother Christian Sosa, 22. Flight-tracking data showed the plane's altitude plunging from around 10,000 to 3,700 feet within three minutes and circling before it vanished near Andros Island, roughly 13-15 miles from the coast. The US Coast Guard is assisting the Royal Bahamas Defence Force in the search, and relatives, including the missing couple's son, have travelled to the area to help, while family members have publicly appealed for assistance in finding the plane.
