Netflix has acquired global rights to the Australian documentary series "2.6 Seconds: Death in the Outback" ahead of its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The four-part series is the only documentary selected for TIFF's Primetime programme and examines the 2019 killing of 19-year-old Kumanjayi Walker, shot dead by a police officer in the Northern Territory in an incident lasting 2.6 seconds that triggered a national debate in Australia over policing, justice and race.

The series is directed by Darren Dale and written by Andrew Boe, with Dale and Boe also serving as executive producers alongside Jacob Hickey. It is produced by Blackfella Films for broadcasters SBS and NITV, in association with PAW Media, with major investment from Screen Australia's First Nations Department, Screen NSW and All3Media International. It will stream on Netflix worldwide from early 2027, following its TIFF debut.
