Apple has launched a new $50-a-month tier of its AppleCare One insurance plan, called AppleCare One Family, unveiled at the same event where it introduced the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18. The plan covers eligible devices belonging to up to six family members under a single subscription, making it a significantly broader offering than Apple's existing device protection options and giving families a way to consolidate cover under one payment.

Eligible devices are typically Apple products less than four years old, and members can add older devices or have new purchases automatically included once linked to their Apple ID. This is a marked expansion compared with standard AppleCare+, which covers only one device, and the individual AppleCare One plan, which covers up to three devices under one Apple ID. However, the family tier is capped at six theft and loss claims per year in total, versus two for AppleCare+ and three for individual AppleCare One. It also includes standard AppleCare+ benefits such as free battery replacement and repairs for accidental damage, screens and back glass. To subscribe, users must first set up Family Sharing via their Apple ID settings before activating the plan through AppleCare & Warranty in their device settings.
