Insta360 has launched the Luna Pro, a $600 pocketable gimbal camera that positions itself as a direct rival to DJI's Osmo Pocket 4, joining a crowded summer of new pocket-camera releases. The device is aimed squarely at short-form video creators posting to Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, offering a feature that currently sets it apart from competitors in that space.

The Luna Pro shares most of its body and internals with the pricier Insta360 Luna Ultra, including a Leica Summicron f1.8/20mm lens, a 1-inch sensor supporting 8K/30 and 4K/120 recording, Dolby Vision, 10-bit I-Log and 37-megapixel photos, but drops the Ultra's dual-lens zoom for a single fixed lens and a smaller gimbal head. Its standout advantage is true 4K recording in portrait (9:16) mode, something the Luna Ultra, Osmo Pocket 4 and Pocket 4P cannot currently match, alongside 47GB of internal storage, SD card expansion and a 1,550mAh battery. In testing, image quality closely matched the Osmo Pocket 4, with the reviewer noting slightly punchier detail and blacks on the Luna Pro, though DJI's camera showed richer colour depth.
