Residents of Binibeca Vell, a picturesque private fishing village in Menorca, have publicly criticised holidaymakers for trespassing on their properties to take photographs, posting videos telling disrespectful "tourists go home" via the settlement's official Instagram account. Footage shows visitors lying on stairwells, climbing onto whitewashed walls and gated homes, and blocking residents' doorways as they pose for pictures in the narrow cobblestone streets, disrupting daily life for the community. The situation highlights growing tensions around overtourism in popular Mediterranean destinations, where residents feel their homes are being treated as photo backdrops rather than lived-in spaces.

Built in 1964 in the style of a traditional Greek village, Binibeca Vell comprises 165 ivory-white properties and now attracts more than 800,000 visitors a year, straining life for locals. The residents' association, backed by Sant Lluís Town Council, has repeatedly restricted access hours in response, with visiting currently permitted between 10am and 10pm, narrowed from the previous 11am to 8pm window in 2024. Signs throughout the village ask tourists to stay quiet and avoid climbing on walls or houses, while residents say they must regularly ask visitors sitting on their steps to move so they can enter their own homes.
