Crunchyroll has acquired the anime film Witch on the Holy Night and set it for release in North American cinemas on 29 January, distributing it alongside Sony Pictures Entertainment. The film is based on the 2012 visual novel by Kinoko Nasu, developed by Type-Moon (the studio behind the Fate franchise), and is animated by ufotable, which made last year's blockbuster Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle I, a film that took nearly $794 million (about £625 million) worldwide.

The story follows Aoko Aozaki, an ordinary-seeming schoolgirl who is secretly an apprentice magician living with housemate Alice Kuonji as she strives to become a full-fledged Magician, before meeting a boy who sets the tale in motion. The film will be available with both Japanese audio and English subtitles, as well as an English dub, and will roll out internationally from 21 January in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, followed by staggered dates across Europe, Latin America and Oceania, before reaching the US, Canada, the UK and Ireland, and other markets on 29 January.
