As the first anniversary of conservative activist Charlie Kirk's assassination passes, prosecutors have detailed the evidence they say ties Tyler Robinson to the killing ahead of his murder trial. Kirk, 31, was shot in the neck in front of thousands of witnesses while speaking at Utah Valley University on 10 September 2025; Robinson, then 22, was arrested two days later and now faces seven charges, including aggravated murder, which carries the death penalty. A judge ruled earlier this month that the case will proceed to trial after hearing testimony from Robinson's roommate and partner, Lance Twiggs.

Prosecutors allege Robinson used his grandfather's Mauser Model 98 rifle and a .30-06 calibre bullet, and point to a string of alleged confessions as key evidence, including a handwritten note left for Twiggs stating he had "the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I took it." He also allegedly admitted his involvement in Discord group chats, telling friends "it was me at UVU" and referencing surveillance footage, while text messages show him discussing disposing of the rifle. Twiggs testified that Robinson later cried and said he "wished he hadn't done it." Robinson, now 23, has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is next due in court on 23 October, when a trial date is expected to be set.
