Schitt's Creek star Noah Reid has been cast to headline a planned medical drama spin-off set within CBS's Fire Country and Sheriff Country universe. He will first appear in a guest role in season two of Sheriff Country, playing Dr Hudson "Hud" Henshaw, with the casting carrying a series regular option should CBS formally commission the untitled spin-off, informally dubbed "Edge Med".

The new project would follow a medical team in the fictional town of Edgewater, California, mirroring the route CBS took with Sheriff Country, which began as a guest arc for Morena Baccarin on Fire Country before being spun off. Reid's character, Chief of Emergency Medicine at Edgewater Memorial Hospital, shares a troubled family background with Sheriff Country's lead, Mickey Fox. The spin-off is executive produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Max Thieriot and others at CBS Studios, and Sheriff Country's second season premieres on CBS on 9 October. Reid, known for Schitt's Creek, Outer Range and Interview with the Vampire, previously led the series Kevin From Work.
