Dell's UltraSharp 52 is a curved, 52-inch, £2,220-ish ($3,000) monitor that a Register reviewer tested and found dazzling but impractical for most people. The device, unveiled at CES earlier this year, is now on sale and demonstrates just how much screen real estate is now possible, even though few PCs can drive it at full specification and few users need one.

At its native 6144 x 2560 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate the reviewer had no PC powerful enough to test it, but even scaled down to 3840 x 2160 it comfortably displayed a 4,450-cell spreadsheet and made games and video feel more immersive. Early use caused neck strain, mouse-tracking fatigue and eye refocusing issues, prompting the reviewer to "pillarbox" the display before adjusting to its full width; setup was hampered by a sluggish companion app and repeated HDMI dropouts on one PC, though a laptop connected via Thunderbolt fared better. Once acclimatised, the reviewer praised its HDR picture, reduced eye strain compared with an older 32-inch Samsung monitor, surprisingly strong rear-mounted speakers, and neatly organised packaging.
