Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has publicly offered "asylum" to the anonymous holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy triple-murder trial after NBC Boston reported the man had a previously dismissed domestic violence charge and had been subject to an active restraining order while serving on the jury. DeSantis accused the network of trying to "smear" the juror in retaliation for his refusal to join the other 11 panellists in acquitting Clancy, and said Florida would welcome him if he faced harassment over the revelations.

Clancy, 36, a former labour and delivery nurse, admitted killing her three young children at the family's Duxbury, Massachusetts home in January 2023, but her lawyers argued she was not criminally responsible due to postpartum psychosis. After seven days of deliberation the jury split 11-1, with the sole holdout blocking a not-guilty verdict, prompting Judge William Sullivan to declare a mistrial on 4 September. NBC Boston subsequently reported the juror had faced a 2021 domestic violence charge, later dismissed, involving an alleged confrontation with his then-wife, and that his teenage nephew had obtained a restraining order against him last year over a separate alleged incident; it remains unclear how, or whether, he disclosed this history during jury selection.
