Canadian boxer George Chuvalo, a five-time national heavyweight champion widely regarded as "Canada's greatest warrior," has died aged 89. He fought some of the sport's biggest names, including Muhammad Ali, George Foreman and Joe Frazier, and remarkably was never knocked down in his entire professional career, despite losing both his bouts against Ali.

Across 93 professional fights, Chuvalo recorded 73 wins, 18 losses and two draws, and was renowned for his durability and iron chin, with Ali reportedly calling him the toughest opponent he ever faced. Born in Toronto in 1937 to Croatian immigrant parents, Chuvalo retired from boxing in 1978 and later became a public speaker on anti-drug education and mental health, drawing on the deaths of his wife and three sons from overdoses and suicide. He also had minor acting roles and worked as a boxing commentator. He died on Saturday, his birthday, and is survived by his son Mitch, daughter Vanessa, grandchildren and second wife Joanne.
