Wales rugby international hopeful Megan Davey, 26, has revived her ambitions of earning a first cap after being called up to the squad for the WXV Global Series, having initially been left out of both the 2026 Six Nations squad and Sean Lynn's extended training squad. The Loughborough Lightning half-back, who holds the club's record for appearances, admitted she considered a full-time teaching career after being repeatedly overlooked, but says self-belief kept her going through the setbacks.

Davey, who qualifies for Wales through her Llanelli-born grandfather despite coming through England's youth pathway system, is now part of a 39-strong squad preparing to face South Africa, the USA and Japan. She has mainly trained at scrum-half, competing with Keira Bevan and Seren Lockwood, and says there is healthy camaraderie rather than rivalry among the group. Wales begin their WXV campaign against South Africa at Cardiff Arms Park on Friday 18 September (19:15 BST), a match Davey hopes could bring her long-awaited debut.
