This puts the seven-year-old streaming service ahead of longstanding rival HBO in the main ceremony for the second year running, underlining how quickly Apple has established itself as a major force in prestige television. The night also produced a historic first, with actor Matthew Rhys becoming the first performer to win the lead actor award in two different categories in the same year.

Widow's Bay, which had received 19 nominations, took home best comedy series, lead actor for Rhys, supporting actor and actress awards for Stephen Root and Kate O'Flynn, plus writing and directing honours. Pluribus added lead actress for Rhea Seehorn and a writing award for Vince Gilligan. Including Creative Arts Emmys awarded earlier, Apple TV's total for the year reached 28, compared with HBO's 21 (five Primetime plus 16 Creative Arts) and Netflix's 16 (three Primetime plus 13 Creative Arts). HBO's The Pitt won best drama series and lead actor for Noah Wyle, while Hacks earned Jean Smart the comedy lead actress prize; Netflix's wins included Allison Janney, Sally Field, and a second, history-making lead acting award for Rhys via The Beast in Me.
