Photographers Rona Bar and Ofek Avshalom, working together as Fotómetro, discuss their favourite image from a long-running project documenting Lois, a performance artist, and her mother Carey in their art-filled home. The photograph, taken in the pair's garden, captures the close but largely unspoken bond between mother and daughter, and forms part of a wider body of work exploring how identity, heritage and relationships are expressed within domestic spaces.

The pair first met Lois while casting for an earlier series, Proof of Existence, and were struck by her and Carey's home, which they describe as bursting with art, symbols and personal history. An initial photograph showed Lois in a latex Star of David bodysuit while Carey drew nearby, exploring their unconventional expression of Jewish identity; this grew into a two-year project covering the house, garden and the women's unguarded relationship, including images of Carey gardening nude and Lois tattooing her mother. The project has since become a book, and the photographers, who met professionally before becoming a couple and relocating from Tel Aviv to London in 2022, are now making two films about Lois and Carey respectively.
