Build A Rocket Boy (BARB), the Scottish studio behind the critically panned action-adventure game MindsEye, appears to be shutting down entirely. Multiple staff, including principal talent acquisition partner Dan Hawkins, have posted on LinkedIn indicating their time at the studio has ended, and Kotaku has reported that BARB is closing for good, marking a dramatic collapse for a studio founded by former Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies.

MindsEye launched in June 2025 in a bug-riddled state so poor that PlayStation reportedly issued refunds to some buyers, triggering layoffs shortly afterwards while Benzies controversially blamed "saboteurs" for the game's failure. Subsequent efforts to revive its fortunes, including a spring expansion and the addition of multiplayer and a football mode over the summer, failed to change its trajectory. BARB took over as sole publisher in March after splitting from IOI Partners, with further layoffs in March and May, and earlier this year dozens of employees accused management of installing covert Teramind surveillance software, including recording them at home without consent.
