Real Madrid have emerged as frontrunners to sign Manchester United's 15-year-old winger JJ Gabriel after he informed the club of his wish to cancel his registration. The talented teenager has attracted considerable European interest, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich also keen to acquire him. This situation represents a significant challenge for United, who have invested in Gabriel's development since he joined their academy at age 11 but now risk losing a highly-regarded prospect.

Gabriel holds an Irish EU passport through his father and has expressed a preference for a European move. Real Madrid's offer is particularly attractive because it provides a pathway to accelerated progression through their B team, Castilla, who compete in Spain's third tier. Whilst United hope to persuade Gabriel to remain, he will be eligible to sign as a scholar next month when he turns 16, followed by a professional contract a year later. Manager Michael Carrick expressed caution about the situation, emphasising the club's duty of care towards young players regarding their welfare and wellbeing.
