Former Police Scotland officer Campbell Petrie was convicted of nine charges involving rape, sexual abuse and physical abuse against two women between 2006 and 2022. Criticism has intensified after it emerged he remained in the force following a 2009 arrest and was promoted to sergeant in 2022, raising questions about vetting, internal investigations and whether authorities acted quickly enough.

Petrie, who worked undercover, retired last year after a second arrest linked to the offences. Evidence at his trial included allegations of coercive control, threats, physical violence, sexual assaults and targeting a woman who could not consent, while politicians called for an independent review to establish what Police Scotland knew and when.
