Jeremy Newmark, leader of Hertsmere Council, remains in office after a proposal to place another confidence motion against him on the agenda ended in a 17–17 tie. The motion, brought by Reform UK councillors, followed the Labour–Liberal Democrat administration losing its majority and renewed criticism of Newmark’s conduct and leadership.

The casting vote by Labour mayor Parveen Rani defeated the proposal, while two Conservative councillors were absent. Newmark has faced condemnation for describing campaigners displaying St George’s flags as “criminals” and “nonces”, although a separate standards complaint alleging he called Nigerians “crooks” was not upheld; other controversies include alleged political direction over planning matters and accusations of antisemitism, which he later said he had not intended.
