A 17-year-old driver, Jimmy Savory, was already disqualified from driving when he caused a fatal head-on collision with a bus in west London whilst under the influence of nitrous oxide. Three young people—Savory himself, Star Tomkins (17) and Harley Woods (18)—were killed instantly in the crash, which occurred on the wrong side of the road near a railway bridge. The collision wedged the Mercedes under the bus and triggered a major fire that took two hours to extinguish, with a single survivor, Faye Chownsmith. The incident raises serious concerns about dangerous driving linked to drug use amongst teenagers and the risks of impaired driving on public roads.

The crash took place in March of the previous year just before midnight near Feltham Young Offenders' Institute. Evidence revealed that all occupants had been smoking cannabis, drinking alcohol and consuming nitrous oxide whilst driving around Feltham that evening; social media videos posted that night showed them consuming laughing gas from balloons whilst driving at twice the speed limit. Savory was captured on CCTV driving with a balloon in his mouth and was seen on the wrong side of the road whilst traffic lights were red. Detective Constable Victor Barkes stated that Savory demonstrated "total disregard for other road users" and a lack of awareness regarding nitrous oxide's effects. Had Savory survived, he would likely have received a life sentence for his actions.
