Guitarist Daryl Stuermer played the famous solo on Phil Collins' 1984 hit "Easy Lover", a collaboration with Earth, Wind & Fire vocalist Philip Bailey from the album Chinese Wall. Collins, known primarily as a drummer, produced the album and added vocals to the track but deliberately moved away from his typical drum-heavy approach to avoid overshadowing the song. This matters because Stuermer's contribution has become underappreciated in rock music history, despite gaining cult fame through viral videos of live performances.

Stuermer worked on the entire Chinese Wall session and was given substantial creative freedom by Collins, who encouraged him to bring his own personality to the composition. Collins deliberately fostered an esoteric, non-typical production approach, telling Stuermer "You just play the way you play" and applying the same philosophy to other session musicians including keyboard and bass players. The resulting guitar part is described as brilliant but undervalued, yet has garnered recognition through retro recordings of Collins and Bailey performing the track live.
