Shaun Edwards has been appointed as a short-term defence coaching consultant for England women's rugby team, working alongside existing defence coach Sarah Hunter for the remainder of the WXV Global Series. The appointment comes following England's 39-Test winning streak ending in a 26-26 draw against Canada, with the partnership beginning for Saturday's match against New Zealand at Allianz Stadium. Edwards' recruitment represents a significant coup for the Red Roses, bringing extensive elite-level coaching experience to strengthen their defensive setup.

Edwards, aged 59, is one of rugby union's most highly decorated coaches, having recently departed his position as France men's defence coach where he secured three Six Nations titles. The Englishman has never previously worked with England's men or women's teams, despite past approaches from the Rugby Football Union. His distinguished career includes playing 36 caps for Great Britain in rugby league and coaching roles with London Wasps, Wales, and France over a six-year tenure. Head coach John Mitchell described Edwards' credentials as "exceptional," whilst Hunter welcomed the opportunity to learn from him as the team prepares for further international Test matches.
