California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced a settlement agreement between 12 Democratic state attorneys general and Paramount–Warner Bros. Discovery over their proposed merger, ending months of contentious negotiations that were approaching the Supreme Court. The settlement is significant as it resolves a major legal challenge to one of the media industry's largest recent deals, though state leaders maintain they still believe the merger should not have proceeded.

Negotiations intensified over the past week and concluded late on Sunday evening, with Bonta acknowledging that reaching the final 1–5 per cent of agreement proved the most difficult phase. The settlement establishes an editorial independence board for CNN and CBS News to protect journalistic autonomy. California Governor Gavin Newsom reportedly applied pressure on Bonta to pursue a settlement rather than proceed to trial; the deal is expected to be finalised within the next two weeks.
