The murder trial of Beau Lamarre-Condon, 31, has begun in Sydney, with his defence team arguing that the deaths of his ex-boyfriend Jesse Baird, 26, and Baird's new partner Luke Davies, 29, in February 2024 resulted from self-defence rather than deliberate killing. According to the defence opening statement, Lamarre-Condon entered Baird's home dressed as an Uber Eats driver to retrieve some jewellery; when Baird failed to recognise him and grabbed Lamarre-Condon's firearm, a struggle ensued in which the gun discharged fatally. The defence contends that Davies then appeared, and the gun discharged again, fatally wounding Davies, and that Lamarre-Condon panicked after realising how the situation appeared.

The prosecution presented testimony from Baird's mother, Helen Baird, who described her son as close and open with her about his relationships, and testified that Baird had specifically told her he did not want a committed relationship with Lamarre-Condon. She alleged that Lamarre-Condon displayed concerning behaviour towards her son, including stealing his phone and deleting contacts, and had become "obsessive." Lamarre-Condon faces two counts of domestic violence-related murder, and also pleads not guilty to aggravated break and enter charges relating to an alleged incident in August 2023, when prosecutors claim he stole Baird's wallet from the share-house.
