The New York Mets have appointed Andy Green as their permanent manager on a three-year contract through 2029, reversing the team's earlier commitment to conduct an external managerial search. When the Mets dismissed Carlos Mendoza on 26 June after a 34-47 start, President of Baseball Operations David Stearns stated that Green, then serving as senior vice-president of player development, was only an interim solution. However, after three months and without interviewing any external candidates, Stearns reversed course entirely and offered Green the permanent role, disappointing a fanbase that had expected a comprehensive search for an experienced manager.

The Mets finished the 2024 season with a 71-85 record, placing them last in the National League East despite having one of baseball's highest payrolls. Green's interim tenure produced a record of 37-38, whilst the season overall saw the club fall out of contention before the All-Star break. Green's previous managerial experience includes a stint with the San Diego Padres, which ended in mid-season termination after four consecutive losing seasons, leaving him with a career managerial record of 274-366 entering this season.
